1. Check your IP address

Go to http://www.whatismyipaddress.com. The page should show City/Region/Country at or near the location that you selected when you connected with ExpressVPN.

If, instead, it shows a location near where you are, then you are not connected to an ExpressVPN server location and should try connecting again. For further connection problems, see here.

2. Flush the DNS

Your computer may be using saved DNS entries from your ISP, and in some countries these entries may be intentionally wrong, as an additional method of blocking sites. You need to flush your DNS cache, after which you computer will automatically access ExpressVPN’s DNS for the correct entries.

How to flush the DNS for Windows

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories
    • For Windows 10 and 8, hit the Windows key + X key, then click Command Prompt (Admin).
    • For Windows Vista or 7,  hit the Windows key and then the R key. Select Run and then type cmd. Right-click on Command Prompt icon and then choose Run as Administrator to launch the prompt with full administrative privileges.
    • For Windows XP, hit the Windows key and then the R key. Select Run and then type cmd. Next, click on the Command Prompt icon.
  2. At the command prompt (black screen), type: ipconfig /flushdns and press the Enter key. You should receive the following confirmation: “Windows IP Configuration Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache”.
